At SDS, we strongly believe that for life making, man making and character-building, education can alone be a strong and potent panacea for all social evils.Being the CMD of FACOR company I can assure the association of colleges with company always gives credibility and SDS has emerged as a centre from where not only doctors, engineers, chartered accountants and other respectable professionals have emerged but from where inspiring and sensitized respectable citizens of India have re-surged.

FACOR received best performance awards in the state and national levels from the government for its committed welfare measures in eighties for the employees. Here are a few for record:
State Safety Awards twice in – 1975 and 1977 for outstanding performance in Industrial safety
FAPCCI Award during 1979 for workers welfare
EEPC Award in 1979-80 for outstanding performance in export of FeMn & FeCr alloys
Award for the year-1985 for the increased production and productivity
State FAPCCI Award during 1991-92 for workers welfare
Shri Umashankarji Agarwal, as Chairman of FACOR GROUP had been conferred with LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD from Maharashtra Electrosmelt Limted (subsidiary of SAIL) , Chandrapur at a National Conference held on 24/25 August 2004 for his outstanding contribution to Ferro Alloys Industry in the country.

In 1968 a humble start was made by providing services to the needy, destitute woman and the orphan children’s, which is now developed and expanded as a big complex known as WOMAN & CHILD WELFARE CENTRE. This center is a non-governmental voluntary organization under societies Act, 1860 rendering free services to the needy handicapped, destitute and poor for the last FIVE decades at Garividi in Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh. The most cherished objective of the center is to serve humanity in every possible sphere of educability of handicapped and tapping their potential to become self reliant and live like normal.
Mrs. Promila Saraf is the founder president of Woman & Child Welfare Centre. This centre is having the following activities:
Shabdam' School for the Hearing Impaired
Drushti' School for the Visually Impaired.
Manovikas' School for the Mentally Retarded.
Computerized Speech Therapy Unit.
Computerized Braille Transcription System with Tactile Reader's Centre.
OEU Lions eye Hospital
Shreeram Kalyana Mandapam under religious and charitable society.
Shreeram Officers Welfare Society
Smt Godavari Devi Saraf High School (CBSE)
Hostel for the Handicapped for 300 children.
Vocational Units such as Tailoring & Embroidery, Bakery & Detergent Units, Artificial leg making, etc,

National Child Labor Projects.
Micro Finance Programmes.
Community based Rehabilitation Programmes etc.,
District Resource Centre.
Many handicapped became self sufficient, established their own self employment schemes, some got employment in government and private sectors, many of them rehabilitated in different ways and means.
She also established English Medium C.B.S.E. School, Lioness Ladies Club and other social welfare active organizations at Garividi.
The services of Promila Saraf were not limited to the industrial village of Garividi and to the surrounding rural areas, but extended to the cosmopolitan city Visakhapatnam, to keep the heritage of Indian Dance, Drama and Music through Sagarika from 1981. To provide mental and physicalv health, Vigour and vitality to all through Yoga, she established Yoga village in Visakhapatnam.
She is the recipient of the following awards for her services to the handicapped and needy of the society:
- Sulakshana Ram Janam Pandey Award For the year 1990-91 by National Society for equal opportunities for the handicapped, Bombay, for her services to the handicapped.
- Ugadi Puraskar Award on March 29, 1992. By Madras Telugu Academy for outstanding social services.
- Mahila Ratan Award by International Friendship Society of India on August 6, 1992 for social services.
- Honoured by Bharath Cultural Integration Committee for National Integration for services in the field of social work on November 5, 1992 at Delhi.
- National – Award for services to the handicapped, by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, New Delhi on 21st March, 1993 on the eve of World Disabled Day Celebrations by President of India. Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma.
- Recipient of Plaque from ‘International Who’s Who of Professional & Business Women’ for Significant Career Achievements and contributions to the society, from American Biographical Institute, North Carolina, USA in 1998.
She is eagerly interested to start a Junior College for the hearing Impaired at Garividi as well as with CBSE Syllabus at the earliest. She is not limiting her valuable services in Andhra Pradesh only, but also planning to extend her social welfare activities in Delhi also.

Rural areas create a microcosm of the country. The advancement in science and technology, especially IT and communication systems have reached the door steps of the villages today. Hence, the entire world has shrunk into a global village. As such, the rural youth are aspiring for global opportunities. The need of the hour therefore, is to set up educational institutions of global standards to cater to their aspirations and to make them compete with their urban counter parts in facing the challenges and grabbing the opportunities.
SDS College is one such premiere institution of Higher learning, established in a remote coastal town of Andhra Pradesh, has successfully completed 65 years in the cause of education. The college was accredited by NAAC with ‘B’ Grade, attained Autonomous status and recognized by UGC as one of the lead colleges in Andhra University area. I believe my role as an educator is to guide and nurture the next generation to establish skills to achieve health, respect, prosperity and fulfillment and not merely give information but makes their life in harmony with all existence.
